It’s official. Paramore has gone pop. Their latest single, Still Into You is a full departure from their pop-punk (aka emo) sound, and is full on pop rock. And you what? That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The more upbeat and jaunty sound might leave a sour taste in some of the band’s fanbase, but Paramore’s sound is long overdue for an update.
This song’s punchy drums and rollicking guitars are a refreshing change! It’s especially nice to see front woman, Haley Williams, singing with a little spunk in her! Her unique voice is distinct and gives this song a quirky character. For once, this isn’t a Paramore track that is weighed down by angsty lyrics and dark instrumentals. Instead, Still Into You features crisp production and a lively rock sound that is guaranteed to be a crowd pleasing people mover.
This band’s sound has done a complete 180, a change that was obviously sparked by the departure of Josh and Zac Farro. While the change might be a bit jarring to some, I see the change as refreshing. The new sound isn’t necessarily better or worse than the band’s past material, but they’ve definitely taken a risk and crossed into new territories. In my opinion, it was a risk that paid off!
Final Score: 4/5
