Icona Pop – I Love It

Icona Pop is the latest European act to find themselves breaking through to the American market. Although the duo hales from Sweden, make no mistake. This is not the usual bubblegum we typically see from the land of the Swedes. Their worldwide hit, I Love It is a dirty club grinder with an attitude problem.

Despite being almost a year old, the duo’s single, I Love It seems to have just caught on in the states. You may have heard this song being played at your local club? It was the song that got every half buzzed chick to raise her glass and shake her ass. You may have heard it as the intro to Snookie and J-wow. You may have heard it used in half a dozen commercials and promos. Icona Pop is very much “it” right now, and with their perfectly crafted dance-pop anthem, it isn’t hard to see why.

I Love It definitely follows the current trends set by pop and electronic music, but has enough spunk to please fans of both genres. A throbbing electronica beat backed by punchy drums and dirty synths makes this song a definite 10 on the energy scale. This is a playful yet grimy club track that will have no trouble energizing its audience.

However, the main draw for this song is definitely the antheymic lyrics. The duo delivers their verses in a partly sung, party chanted, but mostly shouted manner. It makes the song almost too irresistible to sing/chant/shout along with. With sinister lyrics about crashing cars, lighting stuff on fire, and throwing “your shit into a bag and pushing it down the stiars,” how can you not? Its a pure rush to shout out “I DON’T CARE! I LOVE IT!” along with Icona Pop.

Is this song a shallow romp through all of today’s current trends? Probably. But what can I say? Oh yeah…I DON’T CARE! I LOVE IT!

Final Score: 4/5
