Train has always straddled the line between being genuinely clever but quirky, and an over the top, nonsensical cheese fest. Has anyone figured out what Drops of Jupiter refers to yet? Or half of Drive By? No? Not that it matters. The band has been enjoying massive success lately, and has even become one of the biggest names in A/C radio. Their latest single, 50 Ways to Say Goodbye, once again straddles that fine line between clever and cheesey. Luckily, its a balancing act that Pat and the boys pull off without breaking a sweat.
Breakups are hard, right? There’s nothing that rings quite as true as heartbreak. Backed by mariachi horns and guitars, Pat somberly sings about how his relationship came to a bitter end. And then, the atmosphere shifts. The song blossoms into an upbeat pop rock tune as Pat comes to a realization in the chorus. His woman never left him….She died! At least…that’s what he’s going to tell everyone.
